Free Flowers

Free can be a fun word...
She was 81 now...
Lots of things can change...
Change in 81 years...

She loved flowers all her life...
Been building flower bed...
Buying flowers...
Planting flowers...
Rooting flowers...
Swapping flowers with friends...
Friends and strangers...
Making new friends with flowers...

However now it was different...
81-year-old knees were the problem...
Knees that hurt...
Knees that did not work right...
Pain took the place of working...
Pain moved in...
Kneeling, running, climbing stairs moved out...

Flowers did not seem to understand...
Flower beds needed weeds pulled...
Grass was moving in...
Not good...

Well what now...
Decisions to be made…
Not fun…
Not easy…
Life has been good to her...
She has learned to make hard decision...
Usually turns them into fun somehow...

OK how to do this this time...

Lots a people really love flowers...
Let’s find some of these people...
Let’s make lots of people happy...
That should be fun...

She had Facebook...
Facebook had Marketplace...
Selling FREE PLANTS...
That was the message...

Bring your shovel...
Plan to dig...
Iris, day-lilies, monkey grass...
Mexican petunias, etc...

She had a great neighbor...
She gave the concrete edgers to her...
Well the people started to message...
Six came the first day...
Some were so funny...
All were happy to dig...

Some helped each other...
Most were plant lovers...
But some of those plants did not get good homes...
But they were free...

Some came for others...
Mother for her daughter...
One lady came for flowers for a grave...
81-year-old's neighbors came and sat...
Sat on the steps with the 81-year-old lady...
Sat and watched and talked to the diggers...

Three diggers are coming tomorrow to dig...
Dig monkey grass…
It took a week to dig it all...
Fun and laughter filled her front yard...
Flower bed is gone...

She can still run her lawnmower…
Now all that space will welcome...
Welcome more centipedes...

It was a good decision...
One more decision...
81 is not always easy...
Laughter always helps...
