CLAREMONT, N.C. - Charles “Smitty” Buddy Smith, 88, of Claremont, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

He was born January 30, 1935 in Haywood County to the late Bryson Medford Smith and Elizabeth Hoyle Smith. Smitty was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Claremont and a United States Army Veteran serving in the Korean War.  He retired as a manager at Montclair Furniture Co. after 23 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Helen Rayburn and Patricia Hedrick; and brothers, Wayne Smith, Douglas Smith, James Smith and Bill Smith.

Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 65 years Marilyn Brinkley Smith of the home; son Terry Smith and wife Sheryl of Conover; daughters Sherry Caldwell and husband Joe of Nashville, Tenn., Julie Carpenter and husband Kenny of Claremont; grandchildren Catlin, Cassidy, Kiley, Cori, Carly, Cayman, and AJ; great-grandchildren Scout, Easton, Emmett, Adeline, Bryson, Jaxon, Josie, Brielle and Brynlee.

A memorial service with military honors to celebrate Smitty’s life was held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 3 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Claremont. Rev. David Hefner officiated. The family received friends following the service in the Family Life Center.
