Donna Perry McGill, also known as Mawmaw Gill, was called home on Friday, September 8, 2023 while surrounded by her family.

She was born October 5, 1951 in Mecklenburg County to the late Lewis and Sarah “Frances” Weatherford Perry. Donna was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Claremont for 37 years and retired from Walmart, where she was a supervisor in customer service. She was a graduate of Harding High School. Donna was a woman of unwavering faith and a devoted wife, mother and mawmaw. She appreciated the simple joys in life and looked for the good in everyone she met. Donna never encountered a person she didn’t befriend or an animal she didn’t feed. She had an abundance of compassion and generosity that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to have been loved by her.

Those left to cherish her memory is her husband of 55 years Gary McGill of the home; son Gary McGill Jr. of Catawba; daughter Michelle Null and husband Stephen of Conover; sister Karen Allen and husband Keith of Charlotte; grandchildren Haley Tran and husband Kenny, Jeremy Null and wife Tara; great-grandchildren Grayson Tran, Jaxon Tran, and Cal Null.

A memorial service to celebrate Donna’s life will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Claremont. Rev. Todd Garren and Rev. Doug Pruitt will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church.
