LINCOLNTON––Implanting identifying microchips beneath the skin of your dogs and cats can save their lives.

In the event that they become lost, your pets can be identified thanks to these tiny chips, which will have your name and contact information on them. In recent years, these microchips have helped save the lives of countless pets.

To this end, Helping Animals to Survive (or HATS) will have a free vaccine and microchip clinic on Sept. 30, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at Temple Baptist Church. The church is located at 3115 NC-27 in Lincolnton.

According to HATS grants volunteer Laura Sidden, the event will be held on a first-come, first-served basis for pet-owners who are Lincoln County residents. It will offer pet-owners the options of one and three-year rabies shots for their cats and dogs. Bring your pet’s prior paperwork for the latter option. Also offered will be a combination vaccination for canine and feline distemper, thanks to the Petco pet product chain. Vaccines will be administered by the Doc Terra Mobile Veterinarian service.

Sidden continued that there’s a limit of four pets per car and two microchips per household. Dogs must be on leashes, and cats must be in carriers. No feral cats and no breeder animals will be allowed.

Partial funding is provided through a grant from the Lincoln County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Foundation for the Carolinas.
