LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Irene Jenkins Fortenberry, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, age 82, of Lincolnton, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. 

Born August 28, 1941, to Thomas D. Jenkins and Pearl Crouse Jenkins.

Her funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Devine officiating.  Burial followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery.  The family received friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. 

Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Lori Lawing; son-in-law, David Helms; grandchildren, Jennifer Lemons (Brad), Candace Helms, Stephanie Lawing (Luke), Bradley Lawing; brother, Thomas “Butch” Jenkins (Bobbie), and sister, Hazel Goins; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Pearl Jenkins; husband, Walter Landon Fortenberry; daughter, Sandra Fortenberry Helms; brothers, Albert, Howard, and Lynn Jenkins; and sister, Willie Brooks. 

Irene was an avid gardener and flea market connoisseur who was devoted to her family.  She was a blessing to all that knew her love.
