NEWPORT, Tenn. - Yates Alexander Richard Sr., age 68, of Newport, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2024, at his home after fighting a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Homestead, Florida and raised in Vale, North Carolina before moving to Newport, Tennessee. He was a member of Manning Chapel Baptist Church. He enjoyed his profession as an over-the-road truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Gerald and Nell Frances Powell Richard, and sister Renee Cook.
He had a love for everyone, especially for all the kids.
Survivors include his wife, Diana Wolfenbarger Richard; children, Angela Ray of Burlington, N.C., Yates Richard Jr., of Vale, N.C.; step-children Eugene and Donna Barnard of New Market, Timothy and Deborah Goben of Kentucky, Cindy and Wayne Clark of Newport; grandchildren, Alex Richard and Garrett Richard of Vale, N.C., Bailey Bollinger of Lincolnton, N.C., Robert Ray III of Burlington, N.C., Taylor Bollinger of Fairfield, Ga., and Ryan Ward of North Carolina; step-grandchildren, Joshua Woods, Ashley (David) Galeano, Brittany (Hunter) Webb, Lauren Barnard, Joslynn (William) Hillard, Haley (Tyler) Stewart and Kaitlyn Schupp; step-great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Brooks, Emma Brooks, Madelyn Galindo, Hudson Webb, William Hillard, Leighah Hillard, Abel Stewart and Collin Phillips; sisters, Kathy (Karl) Beaver of Vale, N.C., Lori (Lane) Love of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; brothers, Larry (Shari) Richard of Crouse, N.C., Joey (Tim) Richard of Statesville, N.C.; nephews, Shane, Lance, Steven, and Ed; and special niece Bobbi Jo Carpenter.
The family wants to say a special thank you for the wonderful care and compassion demonstrated by Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice: Tammy Francis, Jeff Grigsby, Jamie, Shanna and Stephanie.
The family is honoring Yates request for cremation.
