NEWTON, N.C. - The Cline Reunion will be held June 28-30 at the Old St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Newton, the ancestral church of the local Cline/Klein family.
Activities will begin Friday June 28 at 5:30 p.m. at the church and continue with a full day on Saturday. Historian Dr. Gary Freeze will be Saturday’s keynote speaker. On Sunday a patriotic themed service for Fourth of July is observed in the 1818 historic building across the street from the current church followed by morning activities.
Registration is required for Friday and Saturday attendance, adults $30, family $50. You may also register for optional meals on those days at the church for a charge.
Pioneer Sebastian “Boston” Cline/Klein purchased his first property in what is now Catawba County in the 1750s. He brought his wife, Elizabeth Bieber, and their family here soon after from Pennsylvania and built their home near the location of the church. He was a German-speaking immigrant from what was then called Alsace, currently part of France.
The reunion also welcomes all those with Propst and Yoder ancestry. Two of Sebastian’s daughters married the first Propst and the first Yoder in this area.
