Since decommissioned and scrapped, the USS Bonhomme Richard which set sail in 1998 was the third US Navy ship to bear the name first given by John Paul Jones to his Continental Navy frigate. In French "Good Man Richard" honored Benjamin Franklin, who at the time (1779) served as US ambassador to France.

A phrase indicative of the Patriots' determination during the tough times of the Revolutionary War.
