Saturday (May 11th) was 2nd Saturday Shop Local day in downtown LIncolnton.This Saturday (Msy 11th) while shopping downtown, from 11AM until 11PM, those who liked could  take their adult beverage purchased from a downtown ABC permitted business with them as they visited their favorite shops. The Social District officially kicked off Friday and some did take their beverages to the streets with them.  

Signs on the doors of downtown merchants were s red or green cling with the Social District logo.  Red means you can’t go in with your beverage and green indicates that the beverages are allowed. You cannot take an adult beverage from one ABC permitted business into another ABC permitted business. 

Alcoholic beverages have to be in a special cup that shows the date and where it was sold, and they are allowed on the street only in specified areas.  Customers are not allowed to purchase more than two in a day.  

The Social District is on a six-month trial run and is only in operation Thursday thru Saturday.  Other area towns with social districts (public area alcohol consumption) include Gastonia, Hickory, and Newton.
