Lincoln County officials held what was called a 'kickoff' for a construction project on the old Lincoln County Courthouse. While work will soon be underway, it does not mean that the ultimate reuse of the building has been finalized.

The Criticism Got Too Personal

A rezoning request that would have allowed the construction of 162 townhomes at the intersection of NC73 and N. Ingleside Farm Road was withdrawn and won't be considered at Monday night's (March 18th) Lincoln County Commissioners meeting. What bothered this reporter as much or more than the public opposition to the planned development was the way some of those who opposed it took the opportunity to level undue criticism at the property owners--whose philanthropy has helped make East Lincoln a desirable place to live.

Schools Asking for $6.1 Million Budget Increase

At a joint meeting of the Lincoln County Board of Education and Lincoln County Commissioners on Thursday (March 14th) the School Board asked for a big budget increase for the coming fiscal year (2025).

Second Primary Election Set for May 14th

Just when you thought it was all over...at least until November...comes the news that North Carolina will hold a second primary (a runoff election) on May 14th. For most counties, only two statewide races will be included in this second GOP Primary, but in Gaston County, there's one race for County Commissioner that will be on the second primary ballot.

Basketball Playoffs

The 2023-2024 basketball season for area high school teams has come to an end. The last team from our area to fall in the playoffs was the Lincoln Charter girls, who lost in the West Region championship game to undefeated East Burke, champions of the Catawba Valley Conference.
